Reading stress from posture and gesture in real time

Project

ZenSpace

Year

2025

ZenSpace watches for the physical tells of stress — clenched hands, hunched shoulders, face-touching, restlessness — and maps each detected gesture to a specific calming intervention: a breathing exercise, a posture nudge, a prompt to step away.

The design problem was restraint. A wellbeing tool that interrupts constantly is worse than no tool, so the mapping between gesture and response is deliberately conservative, and the interface stays quiet until a pattern actually persists.
